Fatebound is a Web3-based Role-Playing Book (RPB) where each player can immerse themselves in a narrative-driven and interactive adventure. Like a Role-Playing Book, players navigate through a story, making decisions that not only impact their character's journey but also lead them to select from and collect multiple NFTs at key moments.

Each NFT represents a unique storyline or outcome, allowing players to craft their own narratives while collecting digital assets that reflect their choices. ✍️

The game is play-to-win not pay-to-win, meaning players advance and unlock new experiences through gameplay.

Initial Setup:

Upon starting the game, players choose from 5 distinct character sets, each with its own background and special NFT (e.g., a magician, a gambler, a detective, a hacker, or a bounty hunter). Each character set is minted for free (with gas fees) and provide players with initial tools and narratives to shape their experience with.

Core Mechanics:

1. Non-linear Story Progression: Players progress through a storyline filled with decisions that open new pathways based on their character's background and choices. Each decision leads to unique encounters and developments in the narrative. (see Example section below ⬇️)

2. Dynamic NFT Selection: After critical choices or events, players are presented with two or more NFTs, each representing different aspects of the story or outcomes:

   • For example, after making a choice in a tavern, players might decide between an NFT representing a mysterious ally or one symbolizing a hidden secret they uncovered. Each option leads to distinct storylines, interactions, and consequences.

   • The NFTs serve as collectibles and provide players with access to unique quests, items, or story arcs.

3. Decision Trees on the Blockchain: Players can navigate their decision trees where their choices are immortalized on-chain. Players can revisit past decisions by holding the NFTs associated with those moments, which can unlock alternate storylines or reveal hidden lore.

4. On-Chain Economy: While players are not required to mint NFTs to progress, choosing between NFTs can create a light monetization system based on decision-making. Players can trade or sell their NFTs on secondary markets.

5. Social Sharing: Players are encouraged to share their NFT collectibles and unique story experiences on social platforms, especially on X (formerly Twitter). For instance:

   • A player who chooses a specific NFT representing a unique storyline might post: "I just unlocked the 'Mysterious Ally' NFT! Who else chose this path?".
     This sharing fosters community interaction, encourages comparisons of different choices, and creates a buzz around the game.

Examples

Example 1: The Tavern Conundrum

As the player’s character (a rogue or detective) enters a bustling tavern, they are faced with a choice:

• Drink an alcoholic cocktail (which leads to a flirtatious encounter)

• Choose an exotic, non-alcoholic drink (leading to a conversation with a wise old sage).

After making their drink choice, the player is presented with two NFT options:

1. The Flirtatious Ally NFT: Represents the noblewoman who approaches the character, unlocking a quest line filled with romance and intrigue.

2. The Wise Sage NFT: Represents the old sage, unlocking a quest that involves ancient secrets and hidden knowledge.

The player chooses the Flirtatious Ally NFT and receives exclusive dialogue options and quests related to that storyline.

Example 2: The Casino Gamble

Later, the character enters a high-end casino filled with vibrant lights. They are given the opportunity to gamble:

• Play a small stake game

• Go all-in with a massive bet.

After deciding on their gambling approach, the player can choose between two NFTs:

1. The High Roller NFT: Represents the risky play, leading to a path filled with dangerous adversaries and high-stakes encounters.

2. The Cautious Gambler NFT: Represents a more conservative approach, unlocking a storyline focused on strategy and clever negotiation.

Choosing the High Roller way opens up thrilling encounters with gangsters and potential allies but at a greater risk.

Values:

1. Unique Story Ownership: Every player’s journey is different, and their decisions are highlighted through NFTs, creating a personalized and collectible adventure.

2. Replayability: Players can explore different narrative paths or replay the game to discover alternative outcomes based on the NFTs they select.

3. Scalability: Imagine how many “Experiences” (Books) we could write together.

4. Community: Players can share, trade, or sell their NFTs, creating a community of collectors and storytellers within the game.

5. Engagement: Long-term players will return to explore new branches of the story and discover different paths based on their NFT choices.

6. Organic Growth: The NFT choices encourage players to share their experiences on social media, driving curiosity and competition within the community. Players can discuss the different paths they’ve taken and the unique NFTs they’ve collected.

By integrating the dynamic decision-making of a Role-Playing Book with the collectible nature of Web3 NFTs, I think Fatebound offers players a fully interactive story experience where every choice influences their narrative and hence the digital assets they collect.
